Connecticut River Bridge

The Founders Bridge is a significant structure that spans the Connecticut River in Hartford, Connecticut. This steel stringer bridge not only carries the Route 2 expressway but also crosses over Interstate 91, which runs parallel to the river. Opened on December 23, 1957, the Founders Bridge has a total length of 1175 ft and a width of 86 ft. As of 2013, the bridge had an average daily traffic of 29,200. It’s not just a transportation hub, but also a recreational spot, featuring a wide pedestrian promenade and access to the rest of the riverfront park area as well as to Constitution Plaza. The bridge is part of the East Coast Greenway, a 3,000-mile system of trails connecting Calais, Maine to Key West, Florida.
