Popes Creek is a 5.3 mile tributary in Westmoreland County, Virginia and is most widely known as the birthplace and early home of George Washington. The creek is named for Nathaniel Pope, who settled in the area in the early 1600s. Pope's daughter Ann married John Washington, great grandfather of George. George himself only lived at Popes Creek to age 3, but he returned as a teenager and created an early survey of the area when he was age 15.
