Monocacy Battlefield/Gambrill Mill Access

Canoe/Kayak Access Point

blank dot

The Monocacy Battlefield's Gambrill Mill access point offers one of the most evocative riverfront settings in Frederick County, where history and landscape meet along the Monocacy River. Centered on the 1830 Gambrill (or Araby) Mill, the area features boardwalks and trails that lead visitors through meadows, along Bush Creek, and out to views of the river where Union forces once defended the bridges during the 1864 Battle of Monocacy.

Today it serves as both a quiet spot to experience the river's natural rhythms and a gateway into the battlefield's story, with wayside exhibits and scenic overlooks that help visitors imagine how the landscape shaped the fighting. The combination of historic structures, accessible trails, and close river access makes Gambrill Mill one of the most engaging entry points to the Monocacy.Kayak and canoe access to Monocacy River. Paved parking lot can handle up to 20 vehicles. Ramp is not paved.
