Cape May Point Park
Park

Cape May Point State Park in New Jersey is a coastal gem that blends natural beauty, rich history, and exceptional wildlife viewing. Spanning 244 acres, the park features freshwater ponds, maritime forests, dunes, and a sweeping beach that's part of a vital migratory route for birds and monarch butterflies. It's best known for the iconic Cape May Lighthouse, built in 1859, which visitors can climb for panoramic views of the peninsula. The park also houses remnants of World War II history, including Battery 22, a former gun emplacement now partially buried in sand near the shoreline. Three marked trails, including the wheelchair-accessible Red Trail, guide visitors through diverse habitats ideal for birdwatching and quiet reflection. While swimming is prohibited due to underwater hazards, surf fishing is permitted, and the kayak-friendly waters nearby make it a popular launch zone for paddlers exploring Cape May's scenic coast.
Cape May Point State Park itself does not offer direct kayak launch facilities into Delaware Bay.. Swimming and boating are generally prohibited within the park boundaries to protect wildlife and visitors.
However, paddlers can access Delaware Bay from nearby launch sites such as: Sunset Beach (just west of the park), which offers informal beach launching for experienced kayakers, and Cape May Harbor and Spicer Creek Boat Launch, which provide safer, designated access points with parking and calmer waters for launching into the bay
