Historic Site

The Air Mobility Command Museum in Dover, Delaware is a hidden gem dedicated to preserving the history of military airlift and air refueling. Located on the grounds of Dover Air Force Base in historic Hangar 1301—a World War II-era site once used for top-secret rocket development—the museum showcases an impressive collection of vintage aircraft, from WWII propeller planes to modern jet transports. Visitors can climb aboard many of these aircraft during Open Cockpit Days, held monthly from spring through fall, and hear firsthand stories from retired crew members who once flew them. The museum also features flight simulators, guided tours, and a research library, all maintained by a passionate team of volunteers. Admission and parking are free, making it an accessible and enriching experience for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
