The Watergate Recreation Area is currently undergoing a wetland restoration project to restore natural conditions in and near the Watergate Recreation Site in Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey by removing man-made features such as dams and levees and restoring wetlands, Van Campens Brook, and its floodplain. The restoration of 20 acres of wetlands and 800 feet of Van Campens Brook in Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey was accomplished by removing dams and ponds and returning the area to its natural topography. The area is part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The 70,000-acre park follows 40 miles of the Middle Delaware National Scenic and Recreational River through the Delaware Water Gap.
