Canaan is a picturesque town located in Essex County, Vermont, United States. It is situated on the west side of the Connecticut River and is bordered by New Hampshire and Quebec. The town is home to 896 residents as of the 2020 census. Canaan is known for its scenic fields, hills, streams, and snowshoeing trails, making it a safe and quiet place to live and enjoy life. It also contains the village of Beecher Falls, located at the confluence of the Connecticut River and Halls Stream. Due to its ancestry, a significant portion of Canaan residents speak French as their primary language.
