The DEEP Lord Cove Natural Area Preserve is a significant natural habitat located in Lyme along the Connecticut River. It spans about 200 acres of brackish reed marsh and floodplain forest. The area is also adjacent to intertidal flats and submerged aquatic vegetation beds. The preserve is part of the Connecticut National Estuarine Research Reserve (CT NERR), a partnership of NOAA, UConn, and DEEP. The state Department of Environmental Protection and The Nature Conservancy have protected more than 500 acres at this site and are currently working to eliminate invasive plants and restore the native plant community. This area is a testament to the efforts of multiple organizations working together to protect and enhance our natural environments.
