Hydrilla invasive‑plant management threatened-- Federal funding cuts may limit herbicide‑based efforts to control Hydrilla, an invasive plant choking parts of the river. A survey done in 2021 indicated that about 1,000 acres of the Connecticut River was covered in the grass during its peak growth period in the summer months. Unfortunately, it also spreads very fast, and through boat transmission, it has also spread to a number of lakes around Connecticut. More information.

Ongoing water‑quality monitoring-- The Connecticut River Conservancy continues E. coli testing, chloride monitoring, and public‑facing water‑quality reporting across the watershed. The watershed-wide volunteer-based chloride monitoring program is in partnership with the Izaak Walton League of America and aims to provide data about chloride levels in Connecticut River waterways.
