This small town (2000 population of 302) is located where Maryland 38 (Kitzmiller Road) crosses the North Branch Potomac into Elk Garden, West Virginia and West Va. Route 42. Kitzmiller has several interesting buildings from the heyday of coal mining, and includes a bike path along the North Branch Potomac known as the Kitzmiller River Walk. The town has seen a revival with the restoration of the North Branch Potomac nearby. Notable Kitzmiller sites include the Coal Bucket Restaurant and the Kitzmiller Coal Heritage Museum and a botanical garden created by Dr. Melvin Brown, a science professor at Frostburg State University.
