Loudoun County

Virginia County

Photo of Loudoun County Museum

An historic, rapidly growing county, Loudoun is feeling the pressures of development from the Washington area. The county seat is Leesburg; major towns include Middleburg and Purcellville. The county is bounded by the Potomac River to the north; Fairfax County to the east; and Jefferson County, West Virginia to the west. Washington Dulles Airport has attracted a great deal of development along Va. Route 28 and Route 7, which parallels the Potomac westward from Fairfax County. The area has become a center for telecommunications and Internet technology. Historic Goose Creek, a largely undeveloped tributary of the Potomac, drains much of the county.
