A popular site in the Paw Paw Bends area of the upper Potomac. Orleans Cross Roads is an unincorporated hamlet across the Potomac from Little Orleans, Md. The hamlet grew along the Potomac, on the western flank of Sideling Hill, where a small cluster of homes, farms, and riverfront activity took shape in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Its location opposite Little Orleans, Maryland, made it a natural stopping point along the river corridor, later reinforced by the arrival of the B&O Railroad, whose main line still passes through the site. Rockwell Run, a spring?fed mountain stream, enters the Potomac just south of the settlement, giving the area a reliable water source and shaping early land use. Though never more than a small community, Orleans Crossroads remains a recognizable landmark in the Paw Paw Bends region, reflecting the quiet, enduring river culture of Morgan County.
