Algonkian Regional Park
Virginia Regional Park
Part of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority system, this 850 acre park was once a golf course owned by the Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO). The park offers boating, picnicking, and hiking as well as one of the finest 18-hole, par-72 courses in the Washington metropolitan area. A trail goes down to the Potomac River. There is no entrance fee to the park. A public boat launching area allows access to the Seneca slackwater above Dam No. 2 known as Seneca Lake. A large covered pavilion may be reserved for group picnics. Picnic shelters are also available.
Algonkian offers a swimming pool and twelve cottages on the river; these may be rented by the week or daily. The park also has developed the Algonkian Meeting Center for meetings, retreats, parties, and receptions. Groups up to 200 can be handled by the site. Discounts are available for non-profit groups.
