Fort Belvoir

U.S. Army Fort

Opposite Mason Neck on the upstream side of Gunston Cove, the U.S. Army owns nearly 10 miles of Potomac shoreline. The area is called the Fort Belvoir Military Reservation, home of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. U.S. 1 passes directly through the reservation.

Fort Belvoir is an 8,600 acre Army isntallation along the river. The site has recorded more than 250 species of birds, including bald eacles and rare duck species such as the cinnamon teal.
