Fairfax County

Virginia County

blank dot

One of the largest counties in Virginia, Fairfax County borders the Potomac in two places--along the upper estuary from Mason Neck to Alexandria, and along the free-flowing Potomac from Chain Bridge north to the Loudoun County line. Much of the Potomac shoreline in Fairfax County is protected by parks of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority, an agency dedicated to preserving the river as well as other important stream valleys. Fairfax County is bounded by the Potomac on the north and east, Occoquan Creek on the south, and Loudoun County on the west.
