USGS Gage at Bennett Creek

The USGS river gage on Bennett Creek at Park Mills, Maryland provides continuous monitoring of streamflow and water levels in this tributary of the Monocacy River. Located in Frederick County, Bennett Creek drains a largely rural and suburban watershed, and the gage helps identify how rainfall and land use changes affect local hydrology. Flood stage thresholds at this site are defined at 6 feet for action stage, 11 feet for minor flooding, 17 feet for moderate flooding, and 20 feet for major flooding. The information collected supports flood forecasting, water resource management, and ecological studies, making the gage a valuable tool for both scientists and local agencies.

Federal and state agencies maintain river level monitors throughout the Potomac River Basin. The U.S.Geological Survey compiles real-time information from river monitors, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
