Headwaters of Aquia Creek are in Fauquier County, Virginia. The creek runs 27.6 miles through the county to meet the Potomac at Brent Point in Stafford County. The creek was the site of an early battle in the Civil War in 1861. Aquia Creek Landing, at the confluence with the Potomac, was an important Civil War site, changing hands several times in 1861 and 1862. Eventually the Union established a supply point at the site.
