Railroad Bridge at Shepherdstown, WV
Potomac River Railroad Bridge

The bridge carries the Norfolk Southern Railroad (formerly the Northwest Railroad) across the Potomac near the James Rumsey Monument. Piers from an older bridge are directly upstream. The first railroad bridge at Shepherdstown was built in 1880 on a route that connected Shepherdstown with Hagerstown, Md. Passenger service to Shepherdstown operated from the 1880s until 1957. The bridge is still used extensively for freight traffic.
