Western Maryland/CSX Bridge at Cherry Run
Potomac River Railroad Bridge

The Lurgan Subdivision is a rail line owned by CSX Transportation. It is named after its former endpoint in Pennsylvania, where the Western Maryland Railway at one time connected to the Reading Railroad. This bridge carries the CSX across the Potomac just upstream of Williamsport, Md. The connection between the Western Maryland and B&O was completed in 1892, creating a boom in traffic up the Potomac River to West Virginia.
In the 1990s, the Maryland state government acquired more than 20 miles of the abandoned Western Maryland Railway and began construction of a rail trail from this point to Hancock. The second phase of the project extended the trail to Tonoloway, and finally to Pearre, Maryland.
