Photo of Bayard Bridge

The Bayard Bridge crosses the North Branch Potomac from Grant County, West Virginia to Garrett County, Maryland. The original bridge was built before 1900 and consisted of a single through truss span. Because it is only 13 feet wide, it was closed by the state of Maryland in 1988. The bridge was replaced in 2013, after a long campaign by residents of both sides of the river to rebuild the bridge and connect Mineral and Garrett Counties.

Photo from Wikipedia shows the old bridge before it was replaced.
