The U.S. Geological Survey stream monitoring site on St. Clement's Creek near Clements, Maryland has been collecting hydrologic data since October 1968. Located in St. Mary's County, the site was established to support regional water resource planning and environmental monitoring in southern Maryland. Over the years, it has recorded daily discharge, peak streamflow events, and field measurements, contributing to a robust dataset used in flood risk assessment and watershed management. Operated in cooperation with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Maryland Geological Survey, the station monitors a drainage area of 18.5 square miles and sits at an elevation of 5.45 feet above NAVD88. Its long-term record has informed studies on low-flow conditions, water quality, and land use impacts in surrounding areas.

Federal and state agencies maintain river level monitors throughout the Potomac River Basin. The U.S.Geological Survey compiles real-time information from river monitors, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
