North Fork Shenandoah at Mt. Jackson
USGS Streamflow Monitor

The U.S. Geological Survey stream monitoring site on the North Fork Shenandoah River near Mount Jackson, Virginia has been a vital part of regional hydrologic observation since its establishment in 1930. Located in Shenandoah County, the site was created to support flood forecasting, water resource planning, and environmental monitoring in the northern Shenandoah Valley. Over the decades, it has recorded a wide range of streamflow conditions, including major flood events and seasonal low flows, contributing to a long-term dataset used by researchers, planners, and emergency managers. Operated in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the station continues to provide real-time data on river stage and discharge, helping guide land use decisions and watershed conservation efforts throughout the region.
Federal and state agencies maintain river level monitors throughout the Potomac River Basin. The U.S.Geological Survey compiles real-time information from river monitors, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Current stream conditions are shown in the graph below:
