Shenandoah River at Front Royal

USGS Streamflow Monitor

blank dot

The U.S. Geological Survey operates a stream monitoring site on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River at Front Royal, Virginia, designated as station 01631000. This site provides real-time data on river stage and flow, helping track water levels and flood potential in the region. Located in Warren County, the station sits at an elevation of approximately 469 feet and monitors a drainage area of 1,642 square miles. It has a long history of streamflow data collection dating back to the late 19th century, making it a valuable resource for hydrologic studies and environmental monitoring. The site plays a key role in flood forecasting and water resource management for the Shenandoah Valley.

Federal and state agencies maintain river level monitors throughout the Potomac River Basin. The U.S.Geological Survey compiles real-time information from river monitors, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

NOAA has an online chart of flow conditions and forecasts, as shown by the chart below: Graph of USGS water data and NOAA predictions.
