Cape May-Lewes Ferry

Ferry

Photo of Lewes Ferry

The Cape May–Lewes Ferry offers a scenic and practical connection across the Delaware Bay, linking North Cape May, New Jersey, with Lewes, Delaware. Operating year-round, the ferry accommodates both vehicles and foot passengers, making it a popular choice for travelers seeking a relaxed alternative to driving around the bay. The 85-minute crossing features panoramic views of coastal landscapes, historic lighthouses, and—if you're lucky—dolphins trailing the wake. Onboard amenities include comfortable seating, food service, and gift shops, creating a cruise-like experience that’s especially popular in summer. Terminals at both ends are well-equipped with parking, restrooms, and shuttle services. Advance reservations are recommended.

In early 2025, the Delaware River Bay Authoirty announced a contract to build a new, $70 million ferry boat to replace the 40-year old Cap;e Henlopen.
