Higbee Beach
Bay Access Point

Higbee Beach, tucked along the Delaware Bay in Cape May, New Jersey, is a wild and windswept stretch of shoreline known for its rich biodiversity and quiet, untamed beauty. Part of the 1,069-acre Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area, it features towering coastal dunes, dense maritime forests, freshwater ponds, and hardwood swamps that create a haven for migratory birds, butterflies, and native plants. Birders flock here in spring and fall to witness spectacular migrations, while beachcombers hunt for Cape May diamonds and botanists search for rare dune flora. Though swimming and boating are restricted, the beach remains a favorite for hiking, surf fishing, and nature photography. Accessible via New England Road, Higbee Beach offers a rare blend of solitude and ecological richness at the confluence of the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean.
Higbee Beach does not have formal kayak launch facilities, and launching from its shoreline is generally discouraged due to conservation protections and limited infrastructure. The beach is part of the Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area, managed by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, and much of the area is designated for passive recreation like hiking, birdwatching, and surf fishing. Experienced paddlers sometimes launch from nearby informal spots along the Delaware Bay, such as Sunset Beach, just south of Higbee, which offers easier beach access and calmer water, and Cape May Harbor, which has designated boat ramps and safer conditions for launching into the bay.
