Fowler Beach/Slaughter Canal
Wildlife Site

Fowler Beach, located along the Delaware Bay east of Milford, is a quiet stretch of shoreline known for its ecological importance and seasonal fishing access. As part of the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, the beach is closed annually from March 1 to September 30 to protect nesting habitat for endangered species like piping plovers and least terns. Outside of nesting season, anglers can access Slaughter Canal from the Fowler Beach Road crossing, where shore fishing is permitted in accordance with state and refuge regulations. Fishing is limited to hook and line, and crab harvesting is allowed using hand lines, dip nets, or collapsible traps—though traps must be attended at all times. Boats are restricted south of the Fowler Beach parking area, and only human or electric-powered vessels are permitted within the refuge.
boats are permitted only north of Fowler Beach Road—meaning you can launch a kayak from the vicinity of the Fowler Beach Road crossing over Slaughter Canal, but not south of the parking lot, which is closed to boat access
