Mongaup Rift
Rapids

The Mongaup Rift Rapids are a set of rapids on the Delaware River that are created by the extra flow of the Mongaup River letting into the Delaware River. The rapids are located midway on the stretch between Indian Head and Matamoros, and are challenging set of rapids that can take less than five hours to traverse in a raft in spring. Stay far left just before entering the Hawk's Nest region to catch the standing waves at Butler's. The Mongaup River enters the Delaware, creating big, high standing waves before reaching the dramatic gorge known as Hawks Nest five miles north of Port Jervis. There is a free boat ramp just south of the Riegelsville bridge, which includes paved parking lot, concrete boat ramp, and a floating wooden dock.
