Shohola Rift
Rapids

The Shohola Rift and Mongaup Falls are perhaps the most challenging sections of the Delaware to safely navigate in this area, requiring paddling skills and river reading experience. There is a defined channel on the right side of the Shohola Creek area. From Lackawxen to Pond Eddy, the river is a combination of slow moving water, fast-moving channels, and eel weirs. Many outfitters use this section, with heavy traffic during the summer.
The Shohola Rift rapids are part of a 12-mile stretch of rapids that start just past the Shohola/Barryville Bridge. These rapids are a little more difficult to navigate as there is no straight shoot to find. The Shohola Rift and Mongaup Falls are perhaps the most challenging to safely navigate, requiring paddling skills and river reading experience. Depending on the water level, this section of the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River offers Class 1 & 2 rapids.
