Ramirez Solar House
National Park Service Site

Designed in 1944 by architect Henry Wright Jr., FAIA; the Ramirez Solar House is believed to be one of the earliest examples of a passive solar home in existence. Wright was editor of Architectural Forum magazine and an early praticioner of passive solar research and design. The house is currently closed and locked due to ongoing structural preservation needs, safety guidelines, and its status as a fragile historic resource. The National Park Service and the park's non-profit partners occasionally host limited, reservation-only educational presentations and architectural tours. These events require advance registration. Hikers can still access the exterior of the property and view the structural design from the outside by taking the trails near Raymondskill Creek, where the house is situated. The site is part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The 70,000-acre park follows 40 miles of the Middle Delaware National Scenic and Recreational River through the Delaware Water Gap.
