We stayed in one of the 4 person primitive cabins. The setting was absolutely gorgeous. The cabins were spaced very generously, and the whole park is quite small, so you felt extremely secluded. Our cabin was about 15 feet from the Northern Branch of the Potomac River, looking over into Maryland. The constant sound of the river was so soothing, and I couldn’t have asked for a better spot. The cabins were primitive, and plan on bringing some wet wipes or something to “shower”. Make sure to bring water and firewood, as the closest store is quite a trek. I’d consider bringing an additional heater if you’re going during tHe cold season. The Mineral County Parks and Recs department was extremely responsive and helpful through Facebook Messenger. I was able to reserve my cabin, and ask all the questions I needed to through there.

Great place for fishing, camping ,kayaking and rafting when they have a dam release. Camping is first come first serve. Picnic table with rock fire pits.

This is one of my favorite campgrounds. Remote, no cell service, and now you can book online! Bring all your own stuff (water, trashbags, clorax wipes, etc). I love falling asleep to the sound of the river. Sometimes they run out of toilet paper and hand sanitizer at the latrines, so it never hurts to have some of your own. If you are looking to disconnect, I can't recommend this campground more!

If you live to catch trout, start here! The water just below the dam is pristine fly fishing water. You won't want to fish anywhere else. The area downstream of the kayak take-out has beautiful pools loaded with trout. There is a clean, bathroom available year-round and ample parking. Make the trip downstream to check out the famous "Blue Hole" fishing area. Nearly ALL of the Maryland State records for trout (less rainbow trout) have come from the North Branch of the Potomac.

Great whitewater for kayaking during scheduled dam release days. Available camping alongside the river, first come first served
