Perfect place to go tubing with your own tubes. Very nice area to park. It does fill up fast but the train station is also right near with a lot of parking. We went around 2 on a Sunday and had no problem parking at the boat ramp. If you have 2 cars park one at the Brunswick campground for about a 40 minute float or at the boat ramp in Lander for about a 2-3 hour float. This is a flat water float. Slow and calm. It is free public parking here and at the Brunswick campground which I plan to stay at soon! Very nice people and place. But there are about 10 free public parking spaces near the camp store, but if they are full then you can pay $5 to park in their lot during weekdays and $10 on weekends for the day. Just go in the camp store to ask for help. River and Trail owns the campground and they have a lot of great options also for rentals or for extreme adventures such as white water rafting which we look forward to trying soon.

Great place for tubing, kayaking, and hanging out along the shore. I believe you can camp here as well, but make sure to check the regulations sign on the way in. Dogs must be on a leash here at all times.

We took our two dogs out to go swimming (a golden retriever and a husky, both incredibly avid and strong swimmers) and kayaking in the river in mid-July when the river is low. I don't recommend the river for dog swimming. If your dog will dive off a dock to get a stick in the water, they will likely be fine, but the currents are very strong in some spots, and your dog may not be ready to handle a situation like that.

There are also these little loose pebble-like critters that cling to the rocks as you venture out towards the center. They tend to be a little sharp. My bare feet and hands got cut up a little, so plan on bringing some water shoes. We didn't experience any sliced paw pads but can imagine it being possible if not very likely.

At several points, we had to stop on a boulder to let them rest and cool off in the calm shallow parts. Everything went well, but they were struggling on the return to shore anywhere the water churned up a little. My dogs are willing to get in the kayak with me to some degree, so if I have to get them to safety, it's not a major event. That may not be the same for you, so consider the risks for yourself. It would be in your best interest to stay closer to the banks when you take your dogs swimming here. I also would consider life vests for dogs for my own peace of mind if I take them out there again.

All in all, we had a blast, the dogs had a blast, and we would bring them again, better prepared for the river. Hopefully, this helps you make an informed decision on how you spend your time at this park.

Busy but ideal for a family visit. Also, there is a tow path nearby to walk or bike with river access away from the bridge.

Its a very popular place when it's 72 degrees +. Now just bikers and hikers parking.

Decided on a biking adventure along the C & O canal from the Brunswick boat ramp parking lot to Shepherdstown, WV and back. Flat and smooth on a cinder trail except for one washed out area that required me to walk the bike. Very scenic and fun, ideal for mountain bikes.
