An amazingly well preserved piece of American History.
A trip to Harper's Ferry is a must for any history buff but more than that it is a place to learn more about the past which will allow you to better appreciate the present and the future.
The views are amazing and the buildings are well preserved.
We parked at the visitor center and walked down to the center of town. It was a decent walk and the trail down the hill was a little iffy at times but it was well worth it to take in the beauty of the area.
Looking out over the rivers and imagining how bustling a place this was in its hey day is great.
The rangers are friendly and knowledgeable and this is a must see if you are in the area.

I grew up driving by Harpers Ferry and always thought it would be cool to visit and it is! I took my niece(5 yrs old) for the first time in Sept 2024 and she loved it. She was begging to go back as soon as we left and requested a visit for her birthday because she wanted to see it in the snow. Fortunately we timed it right and managed to have a lot of snow right before. We were basically the only ppl crazy enough to visit but it was great! The Rangers and support staff are always super nice!

As a gal who has lived her entire life in the Panhandle, Harpers Ferry has always ranked high as one of my favorite places to visit when I need some adventure in my life. I’ve been hiking, wandering, and making spontaneous pit stops at Harpers Ferry for so long that I’ve been able to experience its unique beauty in every kind of way. My first date with my husband was hiking here, and we got engaged under the moon at the confluence in 2023. ❤️
As a photographer, it’s one of the first places I tell couples about when they’re in an adventurous mood for photos. You’ve got it all here; some really pretty overlooks, hiking trails for days (22 miles!), natural beaches along the river, and starry nights that you absolutely cannot miss. Don’t forget to check out the Maryland Heights Trail and Jefferson Rock for some 🔥 views.
For lovers within an hour and a half away from Jefferson County, Harpers Ferry is a perfect spot for a day trip, romantic date night, and amazing photos too. Put this one on your bucket list ASAP.

I absolutely love all the informational tablets around the town! I hiked the Appalachian Trail in the state with my little dog so I can say he’s hiked an entire state of the Appalachian Trail 🤣 We ended up doing a side trail to split rock and the view of the entire town was so stunning. I’m really thankful that such a place exists for people to enjoy nature and the history.

Walked in from the visits center because parking in lower town is not available and the bus doesn't allow dog's. The walk is so amazing, along the Shenandoah River and railroad. Once your in town it is super quaint and beautiful. Had a nice lunch and walked is back. The stone steps leading back up the side of the hill are no joke.
