★★★★☆
Ball’s Bluff Battlefield Regional Park in Leesburg offers scenic wooded trails that wind through historic grounds, making it a peaceful yet reflective hiking spot. The paths vary from gentle loops to steeper sections leading to overlooks above the Potomac River, offering both shade and sweeping views. The park is waste-free with limited restroom facilities—good-grip shoes and bug spray are recommended. Free parking is available on-site. Hike difficulty is moderate (high). Trail-paths marking is pretty good.

Very convenient for those in the DC area to learn important local history in a beautiful, quiet setting. Don't overlook this site if you are local or a history buff! Well done historical info and displays, beautifully maintained, and some great walks too, though agree with other reviews that the trail markings can be a challenge. The good thing is that if you get lost (like I tend to do) you either run into the river or a neighborhood, so you will always find your way back, it just may not be the walk you expected! Trails of varying challenge, with some steep/rough enough to warrant turning back (like I did at one point) if you are out for walking not "hiking" - options for everyone.

Nice park. You can tell they try to keep things nice. Plenty of information on what happened.
Lacking clear maps of any of the trails. They are blazed ... Sort of. Colors change on the trails and aren't clear.

Relaxing hike through the history. Well maintained and easy hiking routes. Dog and kid friendly. Lots of benches and signage along with a million birds including bald eagles. Really nice place to visit and not crowded on a weekday.

We went to Ball's Bluff Battlefield Regional Park for some hiking and to search for wildflowers, in particular bluebells. Mid-April is a good time for bluebells. We were not disappointed!
The park is a modest sized park with gentle elevation changes, criss-crossing hiking trails, a historical trail with informational markers and a small national cemetery. There is a Potomac River overlook and some picnic areas.
The park has a parking area and the hiking trails are mostly easy with the maximum elevation change of around 120 feet. The park is an inviting park and the historical element is well laid out and informative, but the highlight of our stay was the discovery of large areas of wonderful bluebells down along the river trail. We also found several other interesting types of wildflowers.
Expect to spend a couple hours or even a full day here. It is worth it.
