It is a free battlefield. There are 5 total stops after the visitor's center. The visitor center has a good amount of parking. The museum there is closed right now and should open sometime in October they said. The roads for the stops are gravel/rocks and narrow, so it is important to drive carefully. Each stop of the auto tour has a walk you can do that is a loop. They around 1-2 miles each. Informative signs with what happened at each place. An underrated battle and battlefield I think everyone should check out with how important it actually is.

A lovely, little spot with a nice trail down by the river.

Our pup was a little disappointed that the cannons didn't fire tennis calls out onto the battlefield.

Easy to get to, ample parking, great scenery, a nice museum and knowledgeable staff. I went on a pretty bleak day and it was still very enjoyable to tour the museum, pester the staff with questions and drive around the tour sites.

Perhaps it was the time of year, perhaps it was visitors center being closed and even maybe its being spoiled by Antietam and Gettysburg, but I found the battlefield largely underwhelming. There was little there and of what I could see there were 3 cannons and then nothing but field.

Interesting place. Not sure why the Visitor Center was closed on a Tuesday afternoon. Drove around to see other areas from the battle. The paper brochure and map found on an outdoor sign gave us an opportunity to see some of the key places.
