It's really quite an interesting site. I honestly had never heard of Thomas Stone before, but there's a lot of information here about him and his family. He did come from quite a prestigious group of people. Right now the site is semi closed due to the government shut down, but you're allowed to walk in as long as you don't go in any of the buildings. I walked the road just to see some of the historic signs and the buildings, but there is also a trail, and I saw a few people walking their dogs on it. Right now it's very peaceful back here.

We enjoyed our visit today! Ranger David led the 1pm house tour. He is very knowledgeable. He detailed Thomas’ background, family history, how Thomas earned his money, the properties he owned and his journey in politics. Thomas was Maryland’s youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence. The living room and main bedroom on the first floor were beautifully decorated. The beautiful desk in the living room was Thomas’. There is also an audio tour that you can listen to as you walk the grounds. We would recommend a visit to this site if you’re in the area.

Beautiful historic site. Unfortunately, we did not arrive in time to take the house tour, but the ranger was so willing to engage with us and other visitors by answering our myriad questions and being super knowledgeable about not only the Thomas Stone story, but history in the surrounding area. The Welcome Center was interesting with its exhibits and gift shop. The grounds are lovely and we were able to observe the house from a distance. Hope to go back soon and experience the house tour

The only way to go inside the house is via a 45 minute tour. The tour was great though! There are some short easy trails around the house too. Highly recommend.
