If you are staying on the Wharf in D.C., you'll probably spend some time walking around and taking in the sites. If you follow the walkway along the Wharf, heading southeast toward the Potomac, you'll be moving away from the hotels, restaurants and crowds. The walk along the water is an easy stroll and eventually you'll be rewarded with this memorial to the Titanic. According to the information engraved on the monument, it was erected in 1931. It might not be what you came to Washington to see. But it's worth seeing and the scenery makes it a peaceful journey.

The Titanic Memorial in Washington DC is a powerful and beautifully serene tribute. Nestled along the waterfront, it offers a peaceful setting that invites reflection and remembrance. The statue itself is striking—graceful yet solemn—honoring the brave men who gave their lives so others could survive.

The surrounding area is clean, quiet, and perfect for a thoughtful stroll or a moment of silence by the water. It’s a hidden gem with a deep sense of history and dignity. Visiting the memorial was a moving experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone exploring the city.

It's about a half mile walk South from the hustle bustle of the wharf. Easy, peaceful walk even on a busy Friday night to see this. Doesn't look much like Leonardo though! 😉

This exhibit at National Harbor is a great way to get a more in depth, historical perspective of what took place. There so many interesting artifacts, some from the wreckage, some from sister ships. The letters from passengers and crew to their families were so poignant. The photos are haunting. As you go through the exhibit you wear your earbuds or head phones and listen to the tour narration on your smartphone. If you need audio equipment you can pay small fee and they provide it for you. It has a real museum feel to it. It takes about an hour and a half to go through it and they have a souvenir shop you can visit on the way out. Bring parking money as it is National Harbor, after all. It's a great low-key activity, and really makes you appreciate how much easier it is to travel nowadays. Even first class travelers back then didn't have toilets, so, you know, lucky us.

A little known and oddly located memorial that honors “the men who gave their lives so women and children might be saved”. But for me, it’s less about the memorial and more about the pretty promenade you can walk to get to and from the memorial. If you live here, it’s worth visiting some time. If you’re a tourist and only here for a short time, maybe only venture here if you’re already planning to visit the Wharf. It’s not worth the time to make a separate trip.
