Stopped in for a drink and crabs and ended up with an unexpected lesson in what this establishment considers “standard practice.”

While sitting at the bar, I watched beer bottles and juice containers being placed directly into the same ice bin used for customer drinks. When I politely asked about it, I was told this was normal, with items supposedly kept “on one side.” From my view, there was no real separation—just bottles going wherever.

I’ll admit, I was a bit surprised that a basic sanitation concern was met with defensiveness rather than professionalism. Even more surprising was management confirming that this is how they operate.

At the end of the day, ice is part of what customers are consuming. Most people expect a higher standard when it comes to cleanliness and handling.

Hopefully this is something that gets revisited—because “that’s just how we do it” isn’t always the reassurance staff thinks it is.
