I had a nice time exploring the grounds. You can feel the history here. Lovely big trees and many native plants. Field of yellow wildflowers were in bloom late September

Excellent state park in southern Maryland. The house is amazing and perfectly positioned on a hillside covered in massive old oak trees. The numerous trails throughout are a fun walk, and all the old buildings spread around the grounds are neato. Free to visit!

Nice state park...I didn't get a chance to drive down the road to the Mount Aventine house because I arrived like 4:30pm.. I will definitely make my way back to tour the home. It was a nice short walk down to the house...which is gorgeous. I ventured around back only to find a LOVELY long cleared trail that lead to the water front. Unfortunately, there isn't much to see or do once you get down there it's basically where the property meets the river.

We visited Chapman State Park on 9/30/2022. Weather was cloudy and cool but what a lovely park located on the Potomac River. The view from the back porch of the Mansion overlooking the fields and woods and the river was beautiful. We did a loop trail hike that was very enjoyable and passed a huge old tobacco barn still in good shape. We ate our picnic lunch by the Mansion and enjoyed the peaceful ambiance and view. We highly recommend a visit to the Park.

Great place for taking family, senior, maternity, and engagement pictures, or just enjoying a walk at the park with your family, significant other and/or pets. Park at the entrance and walk along the wide trail through the woods. 5-7 minutes after, you'll see some nice benches, fences, and the historic home. Walk past the mansion to see gorgeous views of the valley and the water behind it.
