Come if this is your thing: sounds of birds chirping, cicadas buzzing, and streams lapping. Surprisingly picturesque trails, though be ready for some ups and downs near the river. Hikers are very friendly. Parking is easy on the weekends and the public restrooms are very well maintained. Thumbs up for everything! 👍👍👍

This is a hidden gem park in the neighborhood. Nice for trekking and family picnic. However parking is very limited so better come early in the morning to get a parking spot.

The last thing I want to do is let everyone in my little secret, but I will share a little of what I know about Potomac Overlook Park, begrudgingly. As a child, I hung out at Donaldson Run Pool during the summers, played on the tennis and basketball courts. Today, there are pickle ball courts. I've been going there for over 5 decades.
Potomac Overlook Park is part of the Northern Virginia Park Authority. While the Potomac River is no longer visible from the site of the overlook, it's an ideal place to walk or run with a spirited dog along winding trails with steep elevations and vistas
Along one of the trails, there's a historical marker indicating that Native hunting parties would camp above the spring for thousands of years. Today, there are wooden benches around a fire pit. That trail has a bridge over the old spring, which abuts the George Washington Parkway and loops back to the old Native American Camp.
There's a nature center tucked along the entrance road, next to a sanctuary for injured raptors, and some community gardens. There's a small stage for performances. I don't go there for these attractions, I go there to walk my dog and get on some of my favorite trails
Around the entrance, there's a covered picnic area next to a playground. There are always young families gathered there. I can always find parking and a trail where I can enjoy some solitude.
