You can't beat the experience of being in this charming little open air seafood market which steams and seasons your selections for you. They also shuck oysters and have many options for fish, shellfish, and more. Also there are plenty of walkable places to drink and dine more, nearby.

Clutch move: order for take-home.

This is our favorite place to go for fresh shrimp. We always get a pound of the giant shrimp and they mix their spices on it and we stand there and eat it. It is so good! We look forward to this every time we go to DC

Why It’s Worth Visiting
• Historic Significance: Being part of the oldest fish market in the U.S. — great for a “local DC” experience.
• Variety: You can buy raw seafood to take home or eat there — they cook it on-site.
• Family Legacy: The Evans family has run Jessie Taylor for generations, giving it deep roots and authenticity.
• Scenic Location: Right on the Waterfront — you can grab your seafood and enjoy views of the Wharf.

I wanted to love this place…. I had wonderful memories of visiting years ago and was hoping for a similar experience. We went in July 28th, 2025. It was hot and empty at about 4pm. Empty was a good thing, I remember it being crowded. I realize time of day, and being a Monday come into play….but flies on everything, ice melting and selection was limited . Moral of this story is go early, hopefully cooler, and maybe do your homework, Monday might not be the best day🤣
