This is a great place that has been restored. This place is open only on certain days and for a short time. I was here on a Saturday around noon when this place was open and there were rangers inside. They explained about the lock keepers house and what its purpose was back in the day. They also have some exhibits about how the landscape looked a few decades ago versus how it looks now. They also have a bunch of passport stamps that you can collect! This place is free to visit - no tickets are sold.

One of the lesser-known attractions on the Mall, but worth a visit. The interpretation by the Park Rangers is pretty great. Good for anyone interested in the history of canals and the infrastructure of D.C.

This was one of the locckeeper's houses along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. It's been nicely restored vs the other lock locations along this canal. This has been previously closed and as noted is now restored and great to see in DC vs in the more rural areas within 1-2 hours of the city. Nice historical displays and a knowledgeable ranger was on site the day we visited. Glad that we ran across this cancellation location.

This house just reopened after a renovation. Park service guide was friendly and helpful. It was an interesting and educational 10 minute stop. It provides a summary of how the DC man-made channel was created and then filled in.

I'm here to say that Tom Haser taught us so much! Not just about the house but about canals, our presidents, language studies! We could have stayed all day because he was a treasure trove of knowledge!! Thank you for your awesome attitude and energy!!
