In short, a national treasure - from two miles wide to two hundred feet wide, unsure how deep but at least 100 feet with strong undertow. Rare plant life, abundance of wild animals and plenty of fish. Awesome! Just 25 minutes from the nation's capital...

There is the River Trail on the Virginia side and the Billy Goat Trail on the Maryland side for hiking along Mather Gorge but be careful not to fall on the cliffs and stay out of the water.
