My kids (5yo and 2.5yo) went to Kingman for nice walk. We truly enjoyed it! We went on a late Saturday morning, it was quiet and barely any foot traffic. This place is a nice little gem that I didn't know existed. My 2.5yo walked it for 1hr before she got tired. My 5yo walked the entire place. It's a very easy and nice time trail. Some parts of it are stroller friendly but not all. Bring a carrier or hiking backpack instead. They also have canoes as well.
I highly recommend you visit this nice and unique little gem.

Visiting DC, rented a bike, and rode to Heritage Island for a quick trail. The dirt trail is short and relatively flat, but it has some pretty good obstacles; would recommend a mountain bike with at least front suspension because there are some big roots that can make it quite bumpy (and slippery after rain). I went in October, and it was empty, felt safe, but I didn't see any ranger or anyone who can help if I ever needed it. 🥲 Some parts had garbage in them, sadly, but other than that, it's a nice and quick escape. Enjoy! 🚴🏻♀️

Great gem of a park so close to DC. Great for walking and kids.
Trail around Island Heritage trail is great. Parts of the trail is on wooden board walk. There are great places to sit and also has picnic tables.

This is a nature preserve right in DC. There are walking trails and a few picnic tables. The city noise is all around, but lots of birds and turtles call these islands and the water between them home.

We live near the islands in the River Terrace neighborhood. I take my dogs walking here every day and it's done wonders for my physical and mental health. The sunsets on the river are beautiful, there's so much nature watching to do on the islands, and it's never really crowded so no issues with social distancing. It's also nice to go read the while others are fishing off the wooden deck. When COVID is over, I'm looking forward to hitting up the annual Bluegrass music festival that takes place here in the spring!
