Pohick Church represents some of the oldest European history in the area. With ties to the 17th century, this parish was the first in Northern Virginia and connected to George Washington and George Mason. Although renovated several times, the current building was built in 1774. It's still a church and now a site visited by history buffs to see the old cemetery out back and the church's beautiful architecture.

What a beautiful, peaceful place to ponder the past. I admire all the faithful servants who have worked tirelessly to keep these grounds so manicured, and the buildings so strong and stately. It was an honor to be able to experience history on such hallowed ground.

Fabulous stop! A church that George Washington helped to build and attended that is still in use today. Beautiful building and grounds. Members of church are docents and give tours. While I visited members of the church were making apple buttle in huge copper pots over wood fires and stirring with four foot ladels. They were friendly and invited me to return the next day for services. Gravesites from Revolutionary War.
