As a gal who has lived her entire life in the Panhandle, Harpers Ferry has always ranked high as one of my favorite places to visit when I need some adventure in my life. I’ve been hiking, wandering, and making spontaneous pit stops at Harpers Ferry for so long that I’ve been able to experience its unique beauty in every kind of way. My first date with my husband was hiking here, and we got engaged under the moon at the confluence in 2023. ❤️

As a photographer, it’s one of the first places I tell couples about when they’re in an adventurous mood for photos. You’ve got it all here; some really pretty overlooks, hiking trails for days (22 miles!), natural beaches along the river, and starry nights that you absolutely cannot miss. Don’t forget to check out the Maryland Heights Trail and Jefferson Rock for some 🔥 views.

For lovers within an hour and a half away from Jefferson County, Harpers Ferry is a perfect spot for a day trip, romantic date night, and amazing photos too. Put this one on your bucket list ASAP.

The Harpers Ferry Historical National Park (NP) charges a $20 entrance fee per car that is good for three consecutivedays. You could present your NP seniors pass if you have it with you.

The Lower Trail Head is a “strenuous” hike down the hill from the parking lot across the road to Harpers Ferry town then across train tracks through a field of delightful Virginia Bluebells to Shenandoah River shore.

There is a shuttle bus that visitors could take to historical Harpers Ferry town where we found the Stone Steps to St. Peter’s Church that also leads to the Jefferson Rock, a steep climb but good cardio exercise and a portion of the 2,200-mile Appalachian trail.

The foot bridge across the Potomac River to the Maryland Trail Head is on the right of the road from the bus stop.

The Murphy Farm trail is an easy to moderate hike through a lush tranquil meadow or an unpaved road to a beautiful overlook of the Shenandoah River from a 600-meter cliff dotted with pink Spring flowering trees.

This is a nice historic park with a John Brown Museum. There are buses to drive you into town from the visitor center. From the Potomac outlook, you can see Virginia and Maryland. The Appalachian trail also runs through the town.

My first visit and looking forward to returning. So much more to explore!
The colonial architecture was my favorite. Next time I would like to walk the trails.

went to Harpers Ferry National Historical Park this weekend and honestly… oh my God, it’s SO beautiful. The views are absolutely stunning, especially if you love nature and hiking.

One of the coolest things is that you’re literally standing where three states meet: West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. That alone makes the experience feel so unique and special.

The hike up the mountain is totally worth it — the scenery is breathtaking, peaceful, and just feels like a reset for your mind. If you’re into hiking, fresh air, and pretty landscapes, this place is a must.

I would 100% go again 🤍
