The minute-long ride was interesting and quick, and I did not experience any issues with the height. The ride was very smooth. Inside the monument, there are images displayed along the interior walls. The elevator slows down slightly on the way down so you can view some of them, which I thought was really interesting—I just wish there had been more time to see everything.
At the top, they give you plenty of time to explore all the windows, and the views are amazing. Overall, it was a great experience. I definitely recommend booking the tour during busy times. We arrived early and were allowed to join the next available tour without waiting for our scheduled timed entry. It wasn’t very busy, which made the experience even better.

We didn't have reservations, so we were just planning on walking around the outside of the monument and taking pictures. But we got quite lucky. One of the rangers was giving away some tickets and we snagged them. 20 minutes later, we were at the top of the monument. Amazing view! Highly recommended, but make your reservations in advance.

We tried to get tickets for the elevator ride to the observation deck but unfortunately couldn’t secure any on short notice — they sell out extremely fast. The views from the top are supposed to be spectacular, with panoramic sights of the White House, Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, and beyond. Next time, we’ll definitely book well in advance through Recreation.gov (tickets are released 30 days out and go quickly, with a small $1 service fee). Same-day walk-up options at the lodge are limited and often gone early.

It’s still absolutely worth visiting the site for the history, architecture, and inspiring atmosphere. A must-see in DC — just plan your timed entry tickets ahead to fully experience it! Highly recommended.
