This is a great fort that has a lot of historical significance.
There are areas and parts of the Fort and park that are varying levels of decay and abandonment. I hope that those areas can be worked on in the future to help preserve both history and this wonderful green space!

Fort Washington National Park is one of the most hidden sunset spots I have ever found. As a scenic sunset spot explorer I’m impressed with what the park has to offer. I’m disappointed that it’s not known to the level of what it offers. Maybe Maryland is sleeping on money making spot by not investing on its attractions.

Visitor Center and access into the fort are closed during the Government shutdown, but the park is open and the trails and walkways are open and dogs are allowed on leash. Parking is currently very limited because the road entrance gate is closed but there is a little roadside parking at the gate.

This place is wonderful! The landscape is beautiful and majestic. The information center is very charming. The volunteers are helpful and knowledgeable. The fortress fills with culture and history. I was very lucky to be there in the first Sunday of the month. Because they offer live artillery demonstrations. It can be very educational. The place closes at 4pm. I’d think this place would have a great view of sunset during the winter when sun sets early.

One of the best park I have visited. Hills, Castels and the best views of the river you will find anywhere. It looks like a movie scene! You you live close and haven't been you have done yourself a disservice.
