I recently visited Sequoia to try their happy menu and it was phenomenal from the service, interior dining space, and menu offerings. Everything I sampled from happy hour - elote, lobster roll, ceviche, chicken tacos, mini tarts, truffles - was very well portioned with amazing flavor. The service is impeccable with the team making sure drinks are promptly refilled, tables are cleared and making sure the dining experience is exceptional. I spent most of the evening on their outdoor patio with views of the Georgetown waterfront.

I would not recommend Sequoia for a Valentine’s Day dinner. Although the restaurant had more than enough open tables to accommodate guests, with all parties having reservations, the staff and kitchen were stretched far beyond their capacity.

Our reservation was for 7:15 p.m., and while being seated around 7:30 wasn’t a major issue, it took nearly 20 minutes before anyone approached us to take our drink order or ask which option we wanted from the fixed Valentine’s menu.

The first food we received, our appetizer, didn’t arrive until 8:49 p.m. The main course didn’t come out until 9:41 p.m. The main course looked cute at first glance with the heart-shaped vegetables, but that ended up being the best part of the plate — and honestly, the only part they seemed to put real effort into.
From what we were served:

The filet mignon was overcooked, gray, and tough.

The salmon skin was slimy and unappealing.

The chicken was dry, almost chalky.

The potatoes were cold, and the overall plating felt thrown together.

Even the vegetable skewer looked like it had been rushed

Despite spending more than three hours at the restaurant, we left hungrier than when we arrived. It honestly felt like more effort was put into cutting vegetables into heart shapes than into making the food edible. A very unfortunate experience on what should have been a special night.

My daughters and I had a wonderful experience last night. We were celebrating my daughter’s 16th birthday as she wanted to eat in Georgetown. From the moment we sat down until the moment we left, we were treated very well. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. We ordered crab cakes for our meals which were scrumptious. They even surprised my daughter with a complimentary dessert and candle. Kids can be picky regarding food but they loved Sequoia which says a lot. The views, the food, and the great customer service exceeded my expectations. We will definitely visit again.

The food was good and the service ok. The team was chaotic. Then it began to rain which caused more confusion. Our eventual server was outstanding. The restaurant appeared dated.

I went with my family for the Saturday brunch. We went because they served a buffet menu with bottomless mimosas. Alas, this is no longer true. They do serve bottomless mimosas though which were very good.

We ordered appetizers and entrees. The food was pretty decent. A little on the pricey side (roughly $400 for five people) We enjoyed the outdoor seating with views of the Potomac.

Our servers were very attentive and consistently filled our water and drinks. Empty dishes were taken away promptly.

It was a nice experience. Doubt I would return.
