Great trail who are into a difficult one. Good gripped shoes are recommended and it’s always better to have some company in difficult zones. Free Parking available near anglers zone. Avoid post rain days as rock paths can be slippery and zones maybe not accessible due to floods. Scenic beauty is awesome from the top. Offline map download is suggested. Trail marking is pretty good and there’s challenges on bathroom availability.

Billy Goat Section C, C&O Canal.
If you’re looking for a peaceful adventure, easy stroll along the Potomac River, this trail is definitely worth checking out. Located in the Carderock area of Potomac, Maryland. It winds alongside the water, offering beautiful river views. It’s a perfect for a relaxing walk or just soaking in nature. The trailhead is dotted with native wildflowers, and while not all of them have bloomed yet, many are already putting on a colorful show. It’s one of those spots that just keeps getting better as the season unfolds. Stopped at Brusters to treat ourselves with an ice cream and a pup cup 🐻

Serendipity moment we caught these two sporty humans in action while visiting the overlook! Even if water has been lowering year by year is still a magnificent place to visit!

Did the Billy Goat Trail with a group that had varying physical abilities, so some people found it difficult while others thought it was pretty moderate. Definitely wear good footwear — there are lots of rocks, uneven terrain, and one “traverse” climb that was tricky for some.

I wish we had seen more of the nicer views, but we accidentally started from one of the exit trails, so that probably affected our route. Overall still a really fun hike.

This hike was absolutely worth it! The Billy Goat and Bear Island trails are stunning—beautiful views of the Potomac River, rocky climbs, and peaceful wooded sections. The terrain definitely keeps things interesting, with some fun scrambling sections that make you feel like you’re on a bit of an adventure.

It’s well-marked and maintained, and there were plenty of scenic spots to stop and take it all in. I’d recommend sturdy shoes and bringing water, especially if it’s hot. Parts of the trail can be a little challenging, but totally manageable with a moderate fitness level.

Overall, it was a great mix of views, activity, and nature. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a hike that’s both energizing and rewarding!
