The George Washington Distillery and Gristmill was an enjoyable and interesting stop during our visit to the Alexandria area. It was fascinating to learn about George Washington's whiskey operation and see a working reconstruction of what was once the largest distillery in early America.

The employees and guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful with any questions we had. They did a great job explaining the milling and distilling processes and helping visitors better understand the history of the site. The whiskey tasting at the end of the tour was a nice addition and gave us an opportunity to experience a small piece of that history firsthand.

It was a worthwhile experience and a unique attraction that complements a visit to Mount Vernon.

Overall, we enjoyed our visit and would recommend it to anyone interested in American history, whiskey, or George Washington's legacy.

If visiting Mount Vernon stop by and see this site. The working mill was awesome. Matt and Eric took the time to answer all our questions, demonstrating the operation and what made it special. They were fantastic. Then move visit the distillery, which is also function. We get Amy, who was do knowledgeable about the operation and fantastic knowledge of the whiskey and bourbon. We had a great time. If you go ask questions,they know their stuff.

Very good representation of life in the 18th century and George Washington's life and presidency. Hard not to be impressed. Toured the mansion, some of the out buildings, enslaved people's quarters, and recreation of a revolutionary camp, George and Martha's tomb, and the memorial to the enslaved people. Very interesting!

The mill and distillery were very educational and interesting. You don't really associate these places when you think of Mt. Vernon, but I will from now on. Seeing how Washington made full use of his land and resources falls in line with all you are taught about him.
The staff there are excellent. They know their stuff and made really interesting presentations.

We recently visited for a tasting, and while the product itself was good, but the overall experience was hindered by a few drawbacks. The tasting was held outside, and because it attracted such a large crowd, we were standing many rows deep, making it very difficult to hear the presentation.

​The tasting package included three samples, a souvenir glass, and a final pour of our choice of whiskey, which was a nice touch. However, the venue struggles with capacity; the shop is quite small with a limited selection, and the parking lot is insufficient for the amount of people they draw. We noticed many guests having to double-park. If you plan on going, be prepared for some difficulty with parking.
